Farmhouse Tour and Sources

First of all, I wanted to say thank you for all the cheers and congrats I got when I posted on facebook that our house was on Apartment Therapy. I appreciated it all. Really, all I did was submit some pictures and wait to see if they accepted it. And they DID! I’m working on being brave and putting myself out there as far as House Homemade goes. That includes posting to social media and actually telling people that I have decorating/ styling business. I shouldn’t be nervous to say that but it sounds way fancier than just saying “I love to decorate” and the fanciness part of it makes me nervous. Anyway, I’m excited by what I’m doing and thankful for support. God is good and I’m thankful to be in a position to try something new.  Now, back to regularly scheduled programming.

My parents’ farmhouse is done. They’ve been moved in for 4ish weeks and it’s looking great! Everything is moved in and most spaces are decorated. I mentioned it on my Instagram feed last week but I’ll say it again. For a person who loves finding bargains, it’s really hard to finish a room in one fell swoop. There are walls that need a little more polish but when you don’t like to pay more than $10 for ANYTHING (that’s right, even when it’s not my money…), it’s hard to throw that stuff together quickly. That being said. It’s a pretty amazing looking house.

We went there last weekend and I took some pictures to hold you over until I have more to show.

When you walk in, there’s a big entry way that leads into the living room/ dining room/ kitchen.

The lantern light can be found here. The rug is an antique from my moms Nana. I have 2 others at my house. I think at some point, the mirror below will be painted some kind of creamy grey. The art is my parents wedding invitation. The frames were wood with yellowish mats and I just took them apart and sprayed the mat and the frame flat black (psssttttt… you can do that. Spray paint and mat and a frame if it needs some updating. Such a quick and inexpensive improvement.) A stack of books and a clearance globe from TJ Maxx and this space is done. The barn doors in the reflection go into my dad’s office. The doors are beautiful, the office though…… it needs time. Sorry dad. Love you. ; )

After walking through the entry way, this is their view. Big windows, big doors, big trees. It’s beautiful! The curtains are called Birdwatcher by Richloom and they are thick and heavy. The colors are beautiful greys and taupes which was perfect for this room.  We didn’t want curtain rods in here because the house is on land and the view is too good. I gathered them in the back, clipped them with these ring clips and hung them on the wall with push pins.

The chair on the left is IKEA along with the botanical pillow on the right. The amazing chair on the right was found at HomeGoods.

The wall color is Sherwin Williams’ Alpaca, the trim is Alabaster and the dark grey doors and built ins are Urbane Bronze.

The rug is Rugs USA Bosphorus Floral Ornament.

The shelves were filled mainly with things they already had. We based the fireplace wall from Thrifty Decor Chick. We loved everything about hers. I’ll share close ups at some point. Promise.

Behind the living room, along the same bird curtain wall, is the dining room table. The light is from Lowes. The bench, a clearance find at World Market. The prints on the back wall were downloaded for free from here and printed out at Staples for around $15 for the pair. After frames from Hobby Lobby, that big impact wall was maybe $75. My parents already had the chairs and I sprayed them all flat black. The table was made locally by someone I found on Facebook. If you live in the DFW metroplex, it was Ross Rustic Tables

The last little piece I’ll show you today is the tiny little hallway that you can see over to the right of the dining room. While the rest of the house is very neutral, we decided to have this space and the laundry room painted SW Artichoke. It’s such a pretty color and I love that it’s visible from the main space. I made a little corner gallery wall in there. My parents had so many framed pictures, it was a good place to put some that might not have made the cut alone.

It’s a beautiful house. I can’t wait to show you more. I’m so thankful to my parents for giving me the opportunity to decorate their dream home.  If you have any questions about anything I might have left out, just ask in the comments below. Also, sign up to get my posts via email (it’s over on the right hand sidebar) or make sure you check back for more pictures, very soon!
