Simple Tassel Wall Hanging

Hi yall! How’s that clean out coming along? (click the link for more details.) I’ve been sharing our progress on my Instagram stories. Go check it out if you haven’t already.

Today’s project is so easy and one that made the cut to stay in the house while I’ve been clearing things out. When I wrote ‘simple’ in the title, I mean, like, so simple I almost didn’t write a post about this project. It’s about the quick, little wall hanging I made to hang next to Harold in the entryway. You can see the full entryway reveal here.

Pop quiz: Remember Harold? That’s my sweet man’s truck’s name.

Hanging this picture was my big idea for this wall. At first I hung it centered but it was covered by the open door and the reflection from the stained glass covered up the whole picture. HAROLD NEEDED TO SHINE! Actually, hubs would probably say that Harold is a farm truck and would never want to be in the spotlight….so I say, “HAROLD NEEDED TO SHINE!”

I scooted the picture over and created a simple hanging with things I already had around the house. Let me quickly show you what I did.

I cut a scrap piece of trim down to the size I wanted for the space. Around 7″. Then I gave it a quick coat of gold spray paint.

Yep, that’s an old canvas that I use as a spray paint tray. It can always be painted over again no problem.

Once the piece dried I brought it in and picked out the tassels I wanted.  I made a bunch last fall for a door wreath. You can see that here.

In that same post, I also shared how to make tassels. They’re so easy. To review; you just wrap yarn around a book or something.

Tie at the top.

Pull it off of the book and tie all the strings together about an inch or so from the top.

Then snip the bottom loops or trim the tassel to the length you want.

I chose 4 tassels from this project and tied them onto other pieces of different lengths of yarn. That’s basically it. I wrapped the yarn around the gold trim a couple times to give some interest at the top and stapled them on from the back.

You can see here, how I wrapped some of the yarn more times than the others.

And made sure to stagger the heights of the tassels.

So that’s it! Used tassels, scrap wood and some second hand spray paint for a simple, pretty wall hanging for our entry way makeover.

I love the texture it adds. I like that it doesn’t compete with the framed artwork. It just adds to the warmth and simplicity of the entryway. Once again, tassels for the win!

Since, apparently, I love a good wall hanging. Here are some more that I’ve done in the past.

Blanket Wall Hanging

They really are the best way to quickly and inexpensively fill walls. If you can’t afford wall art, can’t find the right size or can’t find anything you love, wall hangings are a great solution to your problem. Feel free to ask if you have any questions! Where would one of these work in your house? Above a bedside table? In a kiddos room? Tell me below!

Thanks for reading, friends!
