Farthing home

Hello Charlene,

I have some initial first thoughts for your home before I even get into the buying part. I would switch the piece of furniture that the TV is on with the piece of furniture under the window, by the back door. I think they’ll both be a better shape for the spot they’d be in.

I’m sure you use both pieces of furniture by the doors for storage but if there’s a way to consolidate to one larger piece, maybe a dresser? I’d consider that. Maybe one of them could act as a side table next to the sofa.

I’d also take down the curtains on the back wall. The view is so pretty and I think they just block natural light and maybe even get in the way. You can replace them with pull down shades for some texture and a little bit of detail. I’ll link to some.

for the kitchen backsplash, I’d do a white ceramic subway tile with a beigey- white grout. A favorite grout color of mine is ‘alabaster’ by Mapei. I think the counters are nice but if you do decide to replace them, I like a marble look white with some warmer veining. More gold/ brown.. not gray.

For the sofas, not sure if it would work measurements wise, but try to place the larger one floating in the room in front of the tv. This will still give you a walkway between the back of the sofa and the dining table but might help to better define the living room. Another option is to place the long sofa on the wall, like you have it and put chairs facing the tv to define the walkway. I tried to pick sofas from places you might be able to see them in person first. Maybe you have an ashley furniture? Basically, I liked the sleek lines and square arms. They feel a bit more updated.

I linked a that might feel a little more traditional than what you have but I love the green tones in it and I feel like it will look really good with the more rustic things that would be around it. It’s hard to tell from pictures but I’d get at least an 8×10 and lay it so that its centered in your living room space. As for the cow hide, I’ll link to some rug gripper pads I’ve heard about. I’d love for it to over lap the rug a little but maybe work its way into the open space between the kitchen and living room.

the artwork above the sofa is pretty, just rehang it a little lower once you get your new sofa. I’d hang it around 3 or 4 inches higher than the top of the back of the sofa.

I love the corner hutch.

It’s really hard to see the trim. from the images I think they look good. If they’re already sealed with polyurethane, I’d look into a brown gel stain to wipe on top.

I suggested some coffee tables. These are easy to find second hand..I’d paint it a color from your inspo colors. Something to break up the browns. maybe it could be the olive color then maybe pick a lighter one for the corner cabinet. maybe one of the taupey greys?

I also linked to a light. I’d consider replacing the flushmout light in the hallway and kitchen. Below you’ll find the links. Please let me know if you have any questions.
