Hello everybody!! Happy March! It’s Global Styler time and (even though I’m a little early) SPRING time! Tomorrow I have a Spring home tour for you but today I want to show you this cute Spring banner I made by re-purposing a canvas tote. *this post contains affiliate links.
A couple years ago our church did a sermon series called Harvest. We were in Hawaii at the time but some of our pastors sent me the bible study, a shirt and this adorable tote. Side note: The design was created by my sweet friend Michelle. I love everything she does!
I love the tote but I love home decor more so I cut the straps off.
Folded the bag in half and cut a straight line at an angle.
It looks like a giant, happy pocket.
From here I decided to add black to the flag with pom poms and colored in the words with permanent marker.
I just used little dots of hot glue to keep the trim from moving around. I also hot glued the front of the bag to the back of the bag so that it no longer looks like a bag.
I already had this pretty black and white woven rope from Christmas clearance and a dowel (I stained and cut that to size).
I hot glued the rope in between the two sides of the bag.
Then I glued a loop around the dowel.
I pulled the rope back up and hot glued it to itself.
I did the same thing to the other side and added a dot of hot glue to the back of the dowel and the rope so that the rope wouldn’t slide around on the dowel.
It’s so cute!! I love how it turned out. If perfectly springy and great.
I think it will end up in our laundry room but for now it looks pretty cute in here.
For this project I used everything that I already had on hand but the tote-into-a-banner thing got me thinking and shopping for other possibilities. Look at this round up of cute totes I found on the www. The images are clickable and will take you to their site.
I can picture the mermaid or cat one in a kids space. Any of these would make such charming little banners….or bags. If you aren’t into buying one thing only to cut it up, I’ve found some pretty banners to might like. Each of them is clickable too!
