We’ll be sharing our progress every Tuesday in January and we’ll have completed, awesome spaces by the end of the month.  Guess what?! If you’re a blogger and want to join us in this New Year, New Room Refresh Challenge you can link up your progress! There’s a link at the bottom of this post.

You may have seen me talk about our pantry / laundry room in my Instagram Stories a couple weeks ago. For this challenge I wanted a space that was small but would make a big impact. So, it’s what I picked and here’s where it’s going:

I can’t wait! It’s going to be so pretty! I’m getting ahead of myself though because let me show you the space. These couple pictures are from the day we moved in. Everything is clean and spacious but  outdated.

When we moved in, we took these shutter doors down from the pantry and shoved everything in. It hasn’t ever been organized, it just became functioning enough..

When Stephanie reached out to me about this project I started thinking about ways the space could be improved. One of the things we decided to do was take down the doorway between the pantry and laundry room. Without the doors it wasn’t necessary anyway. I called a drywall guy that I worked with in Denton, he quoted the project over face time and came the next day. Now the whole room looks bigger without the visual divide of the doorway. And when I moved the stuff back in I tried to make it look a little nicer.

The other side is the laundry space. Pretty soon after we got here, the sweet man built a platform to raise the washer and dryer and a counter top out of plywood.

That’s what I’m working with! Now back to the plan.

Because I can see this room from the kitchen, I loved the idea of having a fun wallpaper around the window as a focal point. This image has inspired me since before we even moved in.

Replace the door with a window, add a way nicer, modern day kitchen…and fancier floors and everything else..and this is the same layout we have.

I picked this Milton and King wallpaper called Olive Dapple as my pop of color and pattern in the back.

I love that it has pops of black, green and light pink…some of my faves. It’s going to look so awesome from the kitchen and dining room.

I thought it would be fun to paint the cabinets in pink so I chose the color “ethereal” from Velvet Finishes.

In case it isn’t exactly what I wanted I have the color “captivating” on standby. I’ll mix the perfect shade.

Add some new hardware and other finishing touches and we’ll have ourselves a pretty little space. One more thing though. In the boards above I have a neutral looking rug. Tell me which you like better. This design (grey rug):

Or this one (colorful rug):

Please let me know what you think about the rugs in the comments below. Big thanks to my friend Stephanie from Casa Watkins Living for organizing this project and for inviting me. I’m honored.

Make sure and check back next week for some progress!!!!

  1. My vote is for the gray rug!! I have dreams of overhauling my pantry and our laundry room is in progress right now, so I can't WAIT to see you refresh this join space! The paper and cabinets are going to be so gorgeous!!

  2. The wallpaper is looking a little yellow on my screen and so the pink rug looks too much with everything else. I'd definitely choose the grey, although it would look so cute to have it bound in pink.
