Eclectic Christmas Home Tour

Hi everyone! I’m so excited to be joining some wonderful ladies I’ve met in the blogging and Instagram world for a Eclectic Christmas home tour hop! I’ll try not to end every sentence with an exclamation point…! Big thanks to Jess at Domicile 37 for including me. Also, if you’re coming here from Maggie’s blog, hi and welcome! I’m writing this before actually seeing her home tour but her house is amazing and she uses bright colors and thrifted vintage items so I know her house at Christmas will be right up my alley.

There are so many houses to see so grab some tea or coffee and ignore your responsibilities for a bit while you browse. ; )

Ok, since I have a ton of pictures, let me go ahead and get the ball rolling. *this post contains some affiliate links for your ease. Nothing costs you more, I might earn a small amount of the sale to buy more stuff like hot glue sticks*

I’ll start you off with our simple front porch. I shared this easy DIY last night on Instagram but this sign was 3 extra fence boards connected with some scrap wood and written on with extra red paint.

The sign stays out front all year because the other side says ‘hello’. I love it because it breaks up a huge blank space on our front porch. The bucket was a quick spray paint job and some juniper clippings. I’m all about going easy on myself and keeping things simple.

Inside, our entry way has a very narrow table with little space for much of anything. I used the same gold spray paint (bought at the Habitat for Humanity Restore by the way) to spray some Christmas trees we used as decor at our wedding almost 10 years ago.

I made this cutesy little pom pom tree with a branch from the yard and pom poms I already had from the Dollar Tree. It’s such a cute little pop of color in this simple space.

The height of the trees is just what this space needs and I like how clean and light it still looks in here. I had to take these pictures with the light on because this space can be pretty dark.  Favorite-DIY-side-note: When we moved into our house, the front door was brown with a tiny window. We bought the stained glass from a local antique mall, cut out a hole in the door, dropped it in and trimmed it out. It worked! Plus the red speaks to me. : )

I buy embroidery hoops whenever I see them at thrift stores and this year I made cute little holly wreaths out of felt and pom poms.

Just outside the entry way is my office nook which is my favorite little corner.

We made the desk from Ana White plans but modified it a bit for the look I wanted. You can read more about that project here.

If you’re here as a visitor, you need to know that pretty much everything
in every picture is either thrifted, Craigslisted, made or repurposed. It’s my
favorite thing to create a home that looks great for as little moola as possible. And I love to give you ideas of ways to do the same!

I had tiny decorations on a few tiny trees and, when I took it all off to
redo it, I ended up liking the natural look better. All of the little
trees in our house are now stripped.

The Silent Night print was a free printable that I had printed larger in black and white at Staples for just over a dollar. The Christmas wallpaper on my computer can be found here.

I should also say, this is not our ‘Christmas rug’ but, with most of our accents in green anyway, when December comes around and I add some red the rug makes me so much happier than it does the rest of the year. It was made for such an occasion as this!
On the other wall is this beautiful, heavy wardrobe I found on Craigslist for FORTY DOLLARS! I begged my brother to grab it for me before the guy came to his senses. We were living in Hawaii at the time for my husband’s work so I couldn’t send him. I did nothing to it. It’s great as is.

I put our nativity on the top. I love how simple and beautiful it looks. We didn’t have a manger? creche? or whatever the barn part of the nativity is called.. Last year, I painted a canvas and used a gold sharpie to draw one. I love it. It’s way more ‘us’ than a fancier set up. Read: cheaper.

I thrifted some of the pink candles and bought the others at Hobby Lobby. The red beads were around one of the now bare Christmas trees and the fringe was cut off of a garage sale blanket.

I just taped the red lyrics over the original re purposed piece that hangs here. I love how simple this little table of decor turned out.

The built in in our kitchen got a few Santa plates and, this year, a hot cocoa station. I used items I already had.

The kitchen stayed super simple too. Just a wreath left over from our wedding (again, ten years ago. There’s very little replacing going on over here.)

My DIY dictionary page wall got a star basket, some holly and new Christmas tree cutouts in the easy frames I made.

I’ve had a big collections of Santas that was overflow from my mom’s big collection of Santas. Last year I got rid of some but this year I got the idea to spray paint them solid colors and now I wish I had kept more. I love the way they look! PS I bought the spray paint at the Habitat for Humanity Restore because I wasn’t picky on colors and didn’t care about having full cans either.

I should stop here and say, this is the only dining table in our house. We have 2 kids and my husband works from home. This table NEVER looks pretty unless your idea of pretty is old cereal bowls and water rings. I am not fancy and I only did this for you to look at right now. You’re welcome. : )

Also, it makes me laugh that I say that because all I did was throw some tree branches in the middle and put our plates on birthday napkins from 3 years ago. #reallife #notfancy

We don’t have a mantel for our stockings so I was so excited this year when I finally came up with something that I love. You can see the tutorial for this free stocking hanger here.

My mom bought this nativity from an Avon catalog when I was a kid. It makes me so happy to see the girls playing with it.

Then, my favorite thing for last. The Christmas tree! Every year I think about using clear lights but the pink glow that comes from a colorful Christmas tree just makes me so happy.

I keep the little bottle brush trees in the letter tray until the end of February. They’re such a cute winter touch.

I used a garage sale Mexican blanket that I dyed pinkish red as the tree skirt. I get the side eye every time a new old blanket makes its way into our house.

This year I used red ornaments and ribbon we already had, made some large white tassels, some red tassels and some embroidery hoop ornaments. Come back next week to see how I made those and how I can reinvent them every year for very little cost!

My older pumpkin collects ALL THE THINGS and toilet paper rolls are included, usually to my dismay, but we cut some up and made it into our tree star this year. She was so happy and I love the way it looks. Again, simple and free.

There are wild turkeys around my in-laws’ house so I asked if I could borrow some feathers for the tree. Love the little pop of boho they add.

I also love how the tree looks when the lights are off.

Helpful hint: Cram your tree in a corner and then you don’t have to decorate all the way around it. SCORE!

  1. I love how you've curated all of these beautiful little things for your home. You are an inspiration! Also, how did I miss your black vent hood when I was over?! So simple and so perfect!

  2. I love how festive your home is! It definitely looks homey and the traditional Christmas colors used goes perfectly with all the beautiful pieces you already have. Love it!

  3. So many lovely Christmas details! I love all the different nativity scenes, and how the little pops of colour work beautifully with a predominantly red decor. Well done friend!

  4. Your home is absolutely perfect for Christmas!!! I love the way you pull together your beautiful finds! It's hard to pick a favorite part (that DIY canvas creche!), but I'm totally in love with the bamboo frame + fringe + pompom garland!

  5. Your home is so cozy! I love your kitchen built in. The green back is so pretty. Your toilet paper roll hoarding kid made me LOL. My daughter currently has a giant box in her room. She squirrels away everything to craft with. 🙂

  6. Hello from a fellow North Texan! Your house is very charming and you've done a wonderful job furnishing it creatively. The tree is stunning and it's nice to hear you don't buy any new stuff for Christmas, either. We've been using the same stuff forever but we like it that way!

  7. So cute! We must be kindred spirits – my goal is to make a home feel curated that looks good for less too! Loved the tour thank you for sharing!
