Easy Framed Canvas

I measured the canvas and cut the 1″ wide wood trim. 2 sides were cut the exact length of the canvas and the other 2 trim pieces were cut accounting for the thickness of the trim.

 If this doesn’t make sense, I drew this very sophisticated diagram for you.

After the stain and paint dried, it was time to attach the trim to the canvas.

I started with the pieces that were cut to length first. I nailed one side, through the trim and into the canvas frame then did the other. After the short sides were done, I lined up the longer pieces so that the edges were flush with the trim and hammered those in.

I chose to line up the back of the canvas and the back of the trim so that the extra width of the trim would be seen from the front. You can really line up the trim however you want depending on the look you’re going for.

As for the adorable sweet picture that’s inside the frame. I used the same stick-able image I used in this project at our house. It’s this peel, stick and reuse print from Walgreens. They didn’t pay me for this, I just found it and love the product. It has a canvas-like texture and I love that if you screw it up, you can peel up the print and restick it.

My girls call my dad “Buddy” after his favorite grandfather.  One afternoon last summer, we were in Paris, Texas AKA the “big city” near my parents house, when I saw the side of this building and bribed the girls with slushes to let me take their picture. I took a lot but my favorite was this one of them walking toward it. Hand holding and baby legs don’t get cuter.

You just peel paper off the back of the photo and position it onto the canvas. (It’s been a while since I did this project and I can’t seem to find a picture of it but it’s easy… and self explanatory.)

Once that was done, all that was left was hanging it and styling. MY FAVORITE!

I love how it turned out! I ended up putting it in our room at their house. It’s so cozy in there.

I love how the frame is pretty subtle. You could use thicker piece of wood and even a thicker canvas for that matter. Since we only paid for the print and already had the other materials, it’s just my style.

Here’s some more of the room. We kept it light, bright and simple in there. I thrifted the night stands and the headboard was spray painted black.

The walls are SW Snowbound. The doors are painted SW Urbane Bronze and turned out so pretty. It is crazy though, in the dark, you can’t tell if the doors are open or closed. That could lead to some midnight-potty-break injuries.

The letter tray was on craigslist. The black and white throw is IKEA and it’s the perfect weight. I don’t see it on their website anymore so I guess we all missed out.

We found the vintage embroidery at a little antique mall in Paris….Texas again. The little tray on the night stand is a Melissa and Doug puzzle box that I sprayed gold inside and then painted the outside aqua. Reuse them! They’re good!

This dresser was my mom’s grandmother’s then was at my Gran’s and now lives here. The top was ruined with water spots so we sanded it down and gave it a coat of black. Also, I love propping things on door trim. You should do it. It’s an unexpected detail.

I thrifted the barn picture and made the book page canvas for my hubs a very long time ago. It fits in perfectly here.
