It’s time!!! The One Room Challenge is over and I’m so excited to show you our reading room / library / book room / pah-lah (that’s southern for parlor). It was quite the transformation. My husband built amazing shelves and for the first time ever all of his books are in one place… and it’s super dreamy. Let’s get started! *this post contains affiliate links.

Months and months ago when I started dreaming about this space, I pictured a dark. earthy color on the walls and a monochromatic look with the seating. I kid you not, this wall color SW ‘retreat’ was on my short list when I came across these chairs on Facebook Marketplace. From there, my face looked like that heart eyes emoji and a plan was born.

Painting the ceiling wasn’t my original plan but I love how cozy it makes it feel in here. To balance the book wall, I wanted a whole wall of curtains. I chose the RITVA curtains from Ikea. They are great. A nice weight, beautiful off white color and have good texture.
The bamboo table was a garage sale find and the floor lamp was from Home Goods.
On the far wall I used a swing arm sconce light I found on an excursion to the pottery barn outlet on a day trip with one of my besties. We almost didn’t end up using it in here because the arm is really long but my husband had the idea to attach it to the curtain wall and now it can swivel behind him or to the side. I love it!
I made the little plant stand with hairpin legs from Crates and Pallet. I actually used a Home Goods serving tray for the top. It’s a great size and gave me the height I wanted for the big Peace Lily.
The framed fishermen are salt and pepper shakers that were my great grandmothers. Framing them gives me a better way to display them while keeping stuff off table tops.
The doors were louvered and I wanted to cover and modernize them. I decided to wrap them in a faux leather for a masculine, stately(?) look.

The book shelves were made out of oak and finished in the color Weathered Oak by Minwax. It’s a beautiful, warm neutral.

I found this little sun beaten stool at a thrift shop and deemed it our library ladder…Not exactly as fancy as they come but it’s so cute. And works. I used it while we loaded the shelves.
Above the dresser I created an art work using fabric from an extra pillow cover, some dye and a little black paint. I love the way it turned out.
The leather doors close off to the kitchen. I love the view from this direction too.
