Getting back into the swing of things with Takeover Makeover was just what I needed. If you missed the plans I shared on Tuesday you can head to this post. I was so happy to create a restful, beautiful rustic boho bedroom for a pair of cute newlyweds. Before we get into all of the photos I want to give a big thanks to Mohawk Home for sponsoring this makeover. It was such an honor to work with a great area rug company seeing as rugs are my favorite things to shop for and switch up. *this post contains affiliate links. After 2 days and lots of work, here’s the bedroom now:
I shared the whole process in a video on IGTV which is live now but I added some trim and paint to create a feature wall with faux board and batten behind their bed. Painted their dresser. Rearranged. Brought in art and decor and topped it off (figuratively) with a great, soft, taupey greige Heritage Hivju Trabal rug from Mohawk Home. Scroll below for other pretty Mohawk Home rugs:
It was a blank slate before. Nothing had been done yet so it was fun to be able to choose which direction to go in the room.

I get asked all the time and the answer is always “yes”, you can
absolutely layer a rug on carpet. DO IT! It adds so much dimension to a
room and can totally change the look of a space. This is a king bed and
an 8×10 rug. Just cheat the rug toward the foot of the bed and make
sure there’s an even amount on both sides.

We moved around furniture and I painted their dresser a soft sage color. I mixed it with left over paint but I’d try the Sherwin Williams color ‘svelte sage’ if you’re wanting to match it.
The bed frame got a light coat of black stain and the center of the headboard got a coat of flat black paint.
I balanced the sw “ripe olive” wall and the black headboard with lots of light and bright details like the art and the bedding. I love how the lumbar pillow and tree stump water colors pull in the warmth of the rug.
It’s such a change from a just a few days ago. The happy couple loves it and I’m so thankful they let me take over in there. What do you think?!
