As a reminder. Here’s the before:
To catch you up, we got new windows several weeks ago and had to replace the siding upstairs because it was rotting and being eaten. Since the upstairs would need to be painted, we decided to do it up right. The painters were delayed due to weather and didn’t finish until Monday night at dark. Tuesday and Wednesday I hustled to finish the details. I’m so tired but it’s done.
The color is SW “Greek Villa” it’s a nice warm white. I picked it to offset the cool tones that come from the constant shade that our house sits in. I love the color.
The door is SW “Lei Flower” it’s a great, bright pop and it’s exactly what I wanted.
The porch lights are from
Globe Electric. You can find them for a super reasonable price,
here. You might have eagle eyes and notice there are no bulbs. I got Edison bulbs but they had a yellow tint to them which was super noticeable against the white brick. I’ll get something soon but the bulb is the least exciting part. I love the modern touch these added to the house.
The numbers are from
Drop Cap Studio. There are lots of different fonts, materials and sizes of numbers to choose from. I picked
these. They made it really easy on me and sent a template to make installation a breeze….Then I changed things up and decided to hang them vertically and on the brick. It was still pretty easy but I had to modify the template and use a masonry drill bit to install them. Also, I might have cried when I realized I had to go buy a different drill bit.
Breaking point?..I think so.
They look so good though. And with them installed on the side, it helps to balance the asymmetry of the windows.
Landscape is a process. At least that’s how I like it. We used a lot of what was already there, we extended the bed forward a little (more and more eventually) and filled in the gaps thanks to
Calloway’s Nursery.
It’ll look so incredible once things grow in a little.
A few things changed along the way but all in all I’d say we got the look we wanted. I feel so thankful. This was a big project and none of it could have been done without my hardworking husband and a great real estate market that made us some extra dough on the way over to this new hood.
When we bought this house I was perfectly happy with it as is.
I might have changed the shutters but that would have been it. An exterior like we have now is a dream. It’s a huge blessing. I’m crying again.
To see more One Room Challenge makeovers click here hopefully I’m not the only one that got emotional…. It’s going to be such a fun day full of awesome finished rooms! I can’t believe I’m saying this but I’m already excited to do the ORC in the spring but with an actual room-sized room.
A big thank you to the amazing sponsors that worked with me on this
makeover. The finishing touches couldn’t have been done without them.
And thank you for your encouragement and excitement along the way!

I'm blessed with a husband who has an opinion about what I want to do design-wise. I'd like to know if this was a problem for you when painting the brick? I have it outside and inside and both feel so dated.
That’s tough. By now, my husband pretty much goes with what I want to do because it’s all worked out in the past. 😬 when there are times that we disagree or he doesn’t see my vision, I just wait a while, find images that are closest to whatever it would look like in our house (sometimes visuals can be really helpful) and bring it up again. We do have things that are non negotiable for him and that’s cool and I leave it. Maybe you could compromise also, if he doesn’t want to paint the exterior brick maybe he could at least get on board for the fireplace brick. Also, I offer to do things myself. Sometimes it’s just the thought of one more thing on the to-do list, you know? Thanks!
