My Home Style Christmas Tree Edition

Hello! Happy December. I cannot believe it’s here! Thank you so much to sweet Stephanie at Casa Watkins Living, for including me in her ‘My Home Style: Christmas Tree Edition’.

Today, I’m going to give you a tour of our Christmas tree. This kind of tour is great. No need to pick up the whole house. Just zoom in and shoot. : ) Ta da!

Our tree is new this year. We ordered the 7.5 Royal Fir Slim Quick Shape Unlit Tree from King of Christmas. It’s so beautiful and realistic looking. It’s also still in the packaging because it took a little too long to get here. Like, everything that could have gone wrong with my order, did…also, I MUST DECORATE IN NOVEMBER… So, while I’m so thankful to them for providing it to me, and will proudly decorate it next year, at the last minute I picked up this 7′ unlit tree from Target.

I always pick unlit because I hear about people’s lit trees going out and leaving big ole dark spots.  I also always think I might, just maybe, want to change from nostalgic colored lights to white ones. I probably won’t. I just can’t. I’m just a colored lights kinda girl. But at least I have the option without buying a whole new tree.

When I was thinking about this year’s tree, I didn’t want to change it up too much from last year. I made these great embroidery hoop ornaments. The fabric can be changed up from year to year so this year I modified the color scheme and bit and came up with this inspiration board.

The fabric for the embroidery hoops was provided by Fabric.com and I worked with Consumer Crafts on some of the other goodies you see. Ok without further ado. One billion Christmas tree pictures.

The blue and red ribbon was on clearance at the end of last year. I like how it pulls in the little bit of blue in the rug I moved in here and brought in again by the gift wrap.

I made these thick yarn tassels for the tree last year. They add softness and a little bit of boho to the tree. The disco balls are from the Hob Lob and make a shiny, shimmery statement that makes me smile.

Succulents (the ones I didn’t paint) (ones already painted gold)

The succulents, from Consumer Crafts are so beautiful and realistic looking. However they were hard to see so I spray painted them gold.

Next year, maybe I’ll use a lighter green and see how they work on the
tree again. I just bent the branches around the stem of the plant and
they are held in there pretty tight. I love decorating with things that I can use
at other times. Not just Christmas. The unpainted succulents can be
“planted” and enjoyed all year. SCORE!

I love the tree and, of course, it’s magical with the lights on but, I am so in love with how it looks when the lights are off.

I originally decorated it in the normal evenly-placed-ornaments kind of way but one night inspiration struck and by the next morning the tree looked like this.

I packed the ornaments in there tight so that it would look like one, big, eclectic-y, boho-ish, granny-esque, artsy-fartsy garland wrapped around the tree.

It worked and it makes me so happy! To be fair. This was not my idea. I have been inspired by this gem for a couple years now so I kinda sorta made it happen in my own way.

The tree didn’t turn out as colorful as I had planned but I’m really into changing stuff at any given moment so you never know if things might turn out different. (For the constant modifications I make, be sure to follow me for daily posts on Instagram.) 

It also turned out that I’m really thankful to have a $45 tree. It shows that you can make something beautiful with what you’ve got. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll be super proud to show off our expensive tree next year but it’s not a big deal either way.
