Eclectic Christmas Home Tour

Good morning! It’s time for me to show you our house decorated for Christmas!! First of all, a big thanks to Jess at Domicile 37 for including me on the Winter Eclectic Home Tour. For those of you who are stopping by for the first time, (maybe from Diane’s tour at The Rath Project) thanks for being here! I’m Jessica and this blog is a way for me to share decorating tips, tricks, DIY’s and upcycles that can help you work toward a comfortable, welcoming home on a budget.

I’m so excited for Christmas. Jesus is the reason y’all but the music, the extra dessert, and time spent with family make it even sweeter.

I shared our Christmas tree with you earlier in the week (if you missed it, more details here) and today I’m so excited to show you the rest of our house.

Every space I’ll show you today, is basically the same room. When we moved into our house over 9 years ago all the rooms were walled off and closed in with a doorway. We quickly did away with that and now it’s all open. With that being said, I use the words ‘front room’ lightly. It’s more like the-front-of-the-big-room-formerly-known-as-the-front-room but that took me four minutes to type…sooooo, here’s that space.

I chose to keep it pretty neutral this year and I’m loving it.

I spray painted the trees gold last year and I chose to group them together with some brass planters and neutral books. The deer is on loan from a sweet family member. It looked kind of bare at first but I rehung it with the embroidery hoop holly wreath I made last year too.

I brag about it all the time on my Instagram but this cabinet was a $40 find on Craigslist. I love it so much and sometimes feel guilty that I got it for so cheap. It’s worth so much more than that.

This is the second year I’ve kept the little trees around the house, bare. They look so simple and pretty in their respective places. I like them like this.

You can find details to the simple advent calendar I made, here. It’s fun and has easy things for us to do as a family in December.

That fur ottoman cover was actually the wrap I wore at our wedding. I love to bring it out every winter and display it somehow.

We’ve got some Christmas books and a play nativity for our girls. My mom bought this nativity set from Avon about 20 years ago so we’ll call it vintage. It makes me so happy. It’s so sweet and colorful and I love when they play with it. When I first set them out, my younger Nickerbean called Him baby Moses…..Reteach!

My desk space is one of my favorite spots in our house. It was an unused, dust collecting corner. We built this desk (details here) and now it’s a completely utilized, dust collecting space. Yay!

The wreaths are left over from our winter wedding 10 years ago. I try to find ways to use them every year.

I grouped some red books for a pop of color and painted that canvas at the bottom. Also, look at those sweet babies. That was 3 years ago. My how time flies.

Above that is our nativity scene.

A few years ago I painted this canvas and added the words over a barn-like line drawing. It’s a quick way to finish out a nativity without making room for a big creche. (I think that’s what it’s called.) Plus the red helps them all to stand out against the background.

I just recently gave it an update and I’m so happy with the space now. You can read more about it here. Basically, it was yet again a dust-gathering corner. Maybe I should dust more.

I sold the furniture in there and built this hook rack. So much more space, so much more brightness and now an awesome place to hang stockings!

That picture is of my husband’s beloved truck named Harold. I’m happy he has a spot in the house.

We stripped our floors and stained the concrete. We’ve done the rooms in sections but the whole house has been done for about 3 years. You can see a review of the floors, what we did and what we learned, here in case you’ve been kicking that idea around.

I have a tutorial for that simple wall hanging coming out soon but I added the felt holly with some tape to give it a little Christmas flair.

Ok now for the living room.

This might be weird but this year, I’m in love with our tree when it’s off. I talked about it in my tree post from earlier in the week but I bunched all the ornaments so that it looks like a big garland wrapped through the tree.

It’s pretty magical when it’s on too.

This rug was my great grandmother’s. It’s over 100 years old and I’m so thankful to call it mine. The colors were perfect for our tree this year so I brought it out from our bedroom for the season.

This gallery wall is always changing a little bit but not much because when you’re working with a brick wall, you try to use all the same nails. That triangle art was painted over a sign. You can find that project here.

I also made the suede tassels from a thrifted skirt. See how here.

I draped a flannel scarf over this little table. I like the warmth it adds.

I mean look at that sweet, nervous baby. I love that picture.

  1. Jessica, your home is so pretty! There are so many great details. Love the bare little trees and that canvas you painted for your nativity. Baby Jesus does kind of look like Moses in a basket. lol Thanks for sharing your Christmas home!!
