Happy Tuesday, yall! It’s Global Styler time again with my friends Stephanie, Corinna and Kathy.
This month we’re talking home decor with a Mexican feel. Since our house is a mess with boxes and donate piles and all, I thought it would be easiest to do a little internet browsing and e styling.
When I think of a space with a Mexican style I think about natural elements like wood, leather and terra cotta. These spaces are also filled with great textures like woven rattan and patterned textiles. In my head I see lots of warm, neutral shades with pops of bright color and patterns.
These are the spaces and elements that inspired me while I was browsing:

Saltillo tile is something that sticks out in my head for a Mexican style home. I even found a more modern hex pattern and fell in love. They’re so warm and beautiful.

Our new home’s entry way has a saltillo style knock off that I’m
thinking I’ll work with in hopes I can get this type of look in the
space.

Otomi refers to people from a certain region of Mexico but it has also become a way to refer to this print and style of embroidery. The pattern and bold colors look so pretty in a neutral space.

I found a stencil pattern that could be used on a wall but also in smaller doses on a canvas, dresser or table top.
I love it for an accent wall:

or as a solid color print as well.

Serapes are such a fun way to inject color into a room.

A couple springs ago I recycled a table runner into a throw pillow for our bed.
Also, you know my love for falsa blankets. Ours are $7 at a gas station on the way to my parent’s house. They come in so many colors and are a great way to add a little Mexican style and warmth (literally) to a room.
I even used one as our tree skirt 2 Christmases ago.
With these few elements in mind, I put together the mood board below. Click the image to be taken to it’s website:
For an eclectic look any one of these things could be added to a space for a more global style. Add plants and you’re done! For fun, and for one more instagram shot- they’re few and far between these days- here’s my attempt at a Mexican style scene using what isn’t yet packed up.
I pulled in natural elements in the woven baskets and terra cotta. I rolled up our rug to show off our saltillo tile colored floors. (They’re stained concrete. We love them. You can find more details on the process here.) And added a serape table runner for the pop of color. I’m loving this little spot now!
I hope you’ve been inspired by some things you’ve seen today. It was fun to pull these ideas together for you. Make sure you check out the creativity at Casa Watkins Living,
