Happy Tuesday yall! I’m starting to feel like things are getting back on track again. Phew… We moved into our new home exactly one week ago. Most of the boxes are out but it’s obviously still a work in progress. Not to mention the plans I have for this sweetie!
Before I get into all of that, I’d love to show you some pre-chaos pictures I took on move in day. So with that, friends, welcome to our new house!
There are a lot of charming things about this place. The most dreamy? Those trees. On the top of our big kid’s list of ‘wants’ for a new house was CLIMBING TREES and boy, did she get them.
When you walk inside, the entry way opens to the stair well, the living room and what will someday be the reading room. We could call it a library but somehow that feels a little bit too fancy.
Here’s the reading room. I think it was a formal dining room but it feels kind of small for that and we aren’t formal so BOOKS it is.
From the reading room, you can walk into the kitchen.
FUN FACT! That oven you see right there?
And the microwave, dishwasher and range?
Those were gifts from OPRAH! In 2005 the former owner of this house was on a “favorite things” episode for teachers! I mean, basically Oprah and I are friends now.
Speaking of the sweet couple that we bought the house from. She left the girls a super cute book *affiliate link (the words and illustrations are beautiful) and a sweet note. They raised their two girls here and were ready to downsize and live closer to them again. I’m so grateful they picked us. (They had many offers to choose from.) We’ll love and care for their house the way we can tell they did.
Ok, on with the tour. At the end of the kitchen is the laundry room. I love it with the giant window. It’s so bright and cheery.
The pantry is on the other wall. I’ve already removed the doors. The house has LOTS of doors. So did our old house for that matter. I guess doors were all the rage in the early 70’s. Maybe instead of “put a bird on it” it was “put a door on it’?
At the other end of the kitchen is the eating area.
It has this big bay window looking out into the beautiful, shady backyard.
The wallpaper is going soon but man, it’s on there. I’ve told the girls that they can pick it off whenever they want. I might have to offer money at some point. If you like peeling wallpaper, let me know!
The eating area opens into the living room. There’s a fireplace!!
That was one of my main requirements for a new house and I got it!
Also, we’re so thankful this house didn’t have popcorn ceilings. We scraped the ceilings at our last house. It’s not hard it’s just dusty and a huge pain.
Before they left, they asked if we wanted the piano. We aren’t exactly musically inclined but we said yes because I have no other plans for that corner and you never know if the girls might end up loving it.
Our bedroom is downstairs. In the hallway to the right of the fireplace.
It’s big and nice. We each have crazy huge walk in closets and our own vanity area.
There’s one vanity in the room, the toilet and shower and then one more vanity on the other side of that. The side below is the “guest” bathroom for downstairs. We’ll have to keep it clean…
I have way-down-the-road dreams to use space from one of the giant closets to make a guest bath then reconfigure ours. Seriously, there’s that much room.
Across from this bath is a closet that I’m going to turn into a mud room / locker room for the girls to drop shoes and backpacks when we come in from school. It’s right by the garage door entrance and a perfect spot for that.
Pardon the crazy, bright lights.. I had to turn them on or else you wouldn’t have been able to see anything. Also, I’ve already removed these doors too.
Ok, upstairs.
There are three rooms. This one is the little Nickerbean’s.
This one is the big Nickerbean’s. They chose these rooms because they LOVE the shutters on the windows. : )
And the front room. The one with the dormer window you saw from the exterior, will be my office. I’m writing this post up here right now. No, I don’t actually need a whole room for myself but my handsome man gets a reading room so I’m taking this one!
Their bathroom is a nice size with 2 sinks, one for each of them.
Phew. That felt like a lot. I’m so excited to show it all to you though! I’m working to get back on track with my posts on Tuesdays. Come back next week to see what we’ve been up to over here. The list is a mile long and the budget, well, isn’t.
Thanks for reading, friends!
You are gonna have sooo much fun decorating this and making it yours. It's super cute and has so much potential! I love that window in the dining area.
Thank you Jennifer! I just saw your comment. Sorry it took me 4 months…. It's been a blast so far. Thanks for reading!
