This DIY took me all of 5 minutes. It’s so easy and straight forward but I’m putting it out there because it might just be the push you need to try something different.
I used the blankets I bought for our tree skirt. Wrapped them around some cardboard and made a tree collar. Instant, free dollar update. SCORE! Let me show you how I did it. *this post contains affiliate links.
For this project I used:
2 blanket scarves
2 pieces of prefolded cardboard
a box cutter (because I needed to cut the cardboard down a bit)
painters tape (or any kind of tape)
The cardboard was actually from the box with our new Christmas tree. It was already partitioned to fold into a square shape but without the 4th side.
I wrapped each piece of cardboard with each scarf. I could have used far less fabric but I didn’t want to cut them down. (this way I can use them after Christmas.)
I tried to make the corners tight and without bulk but besides that, all the extra fabric is just crammed taped onto the inside of the cardboard.
I placed one, 3 part section around the back of the tree and one around the front. The seams stay together and form a pretty little tree collar hexagon.
Like the presents our girls wrapped? There are a lot of DIY, recycled, hot glue filled treasures under this tree.
That’s it! So easy right? I love the way it turned out. I wasn’t interested in buying one and thought a tree skirt was where it’s at but now that I have my little DIY, I love it! Are you a tree collar or skirt kinda person?
